Shakuntala

A daughter of a nymph

Left in a humble abode

To grow in a forest

Among the plants, trees, animals, & birds

She was the epitome of beauty and love

With a heart of gold

That pinned for the lover-

A king who couldn’t remember his pledge

.
Shall we blame the angry sage for his curse

Or shall we blame the duties of the kingdom

As he led a life away from hers

Immersed in keeping his subjects safe

While she gave birth to their son

.
Years passed as the young girl became a woman

A mother of a courageous child

When the lover stumbled back into her life

Fatigued after a war and repenting his grave mistake

The story has a happy ever after imbibed

With lessons of perseverance and grit

Displayed by the forest’s daughter, Shakuntala
