Farewell

Where do I store, one more memory?

How do I secure another story,

In the overstuffed pages of my mind?

I squirrel about, foraging little trinkets

And a happy little memory, to link it

To you, till no more space I can find.

Too heavy this final goodbye,

I try to lighten with a sigh

But so laden it is, I could drown.

I wait for time to lighten

The burden of days, you had brightened,

Till they fade away without a sound.

So I can make some room there

And fill my lungs with some air

That was knocked out by farewells.

And fill new diaries with new glimpses,

Though I end my lines in ellipses,

For fullstops- they sound like the knell.
