Yearning

Behind those closed doors,

Sat a pretty, young girl,

Engrossed in her thoughts,

About the outside, wonderful world.

.

Her yearning to meet the world,

Increased with the passing hours,

And yet, no one approached,

To open her bolted tower.

.

Her yearning did not subside,

She was burning inside,

Just to get a glimpse,

Of her human tribe.

.

But when the door finally did open,

A pall of fear gripped her heart,

As her innocence was lost,

And her own world fell apart.

.

For nothing here matched with her imagination,

It was a malicious, vicious jungle of division-

Sometimes in the pretext of state,

And sometimes, in the pretext of religion.

.

Now she wanted to retreat again,

Behind those very closed doors,

For her yearning had finally subsided,

For a world beautiful no more.
