Hey Stranger!

Hey Stranger!

You and I were supposed to meet this way

Eyes lost in the horizon of brilliant hues of the setting sun,

My favourite time this, this magical dusk

That turns every drop of water to a potion

And makes this fleeting moment on this beach seem like our forever

Hey Stranger!

You and I were supposed to walk this way

Our feet playing hide and seek with the water

Everyday and the next

Recounting stories of the previous night and our lives

Laughing at some half-forgotten memory of someone’s wedding

Our footprints polaroids of an ordinary life

….

Hey Stranger!

You and I were supposed to drown in each other’s eyes

And find language in the touch of our hands

And walk out into the sunset

And make love and make stories

To live the truth we were born to live

Hey Stranger!

You are closest I have come to love in a long time

You are the reason I still dream…

  1. The contrast between the title and the spirit of the poem makes it even more poignant. Beautifully written, Amrita. πŸ’šπŸ’šπŸ’š
