Chains

by

in

I can see them dragging at your feet,

As you run with some trepidation-

My chains of caution.

.

I can see them cramp your tongue,

As you swallow your stories-

My chains of castigation

.

I can see them curtail your imagination,

As you imitate with robotic precision-

My chains of convention.

.

I can see them coddle you at times,

As you try to break free-

From my chains of care.

.

I hope you will forgive me someday.

It was simply meant to prepare you,

For chains much heavier than these.

.
