Now You See Me.

Now you see me, now

You don’t. Between the hills I

Must flow, to bring you

Clear Himalayan water.

A sparkling river, am I.

A Tanka is a 5 lined poem comprising 31 syllables.  The first line has 5 syllables,  the second 7, the third 5, and the fourth and fifth each have 7 syllables. The pattern of 5-7- 5- 7-7. In all other respects it is like the Japanese Haiku meaning it doesn’t have a particular rhyme scheme but it definitely has a rhythm due to the syllable counts. The Tanka, just like the Haiku, is written on nature or it’s penned to express feelings and emotions.
