Things Left Behind…

Last evening,

As I was rummaging through

A heap of frozen moments,

I found a slice of time

Wrapped in silk,

With pink ribbons and glittering stars.

It sat perched on the edge of my memories.

I paused

And drew it close to my heart.

It was light

And soon I knew why.

It had some frothy laughter within

With the softness of a mother’s love.

There were patterns scribbled

In pinks and blues

On velvet dreams and flaky walls.

There were hugs and kisses

And hopes and prayers.

There was everything that I longer had.

Is that why

My heart has never felt light

Ever since I left those moments behind?
