The Girl That Was

Gazelle eyed she watched the world,

Wondering at every leaf, flower and bud,

Sunrise mesmerised her with golden hue,

She loved each sunset’s enchanting view.

                                  *

Drenched in drizzle from the cloud that looms,

Danced like a peacock spreading her plumes,

Roaming the world in her carefree ways

Even nightingales envied her mellifluous lays,

                               *

Caught in the net of tantalising  maze,

Of countless promises that love makes,

Thrown in a world of make believe lies,

Wounded she lay with tears and sighs.

                                *

Her lips are sealed by sacred vows,

Though grieving, still no sorrow shows,

A smile still shines on her lovely lips,

She is just a shadow of her former self.
