Spaces

they say time
fills the spaces
that love digs in
our souls.
but I don’t believe this
because they are never
really filled – these spaces.
time only teaches
us to forget
they exist.
and I don’t forget things.
when you left,
I sanctified your
space in my heart
and called it
a temple.
it is where I worship
my loneliness now.
the memories hanging
on its walls are
hallowed antiquities;
even the grief itself
is sacred.
