Now that you have entered my life,
As a new bride,as my darling wife,
Certain social obligation have to follow,
If matrimony is to be happy and mellow.
*
That carefree laughter ringing around,
Smiles and cheer that you spread around,
As a maiden when you were not mine,
I will ignore as your childhood crimes.
*
Bright ideas that could change the world,
Daring and courage you showed everywhere,
Why do you think that the girls should dream!
They are meant to listen and not to scream.
*
I will bind you with the shackles of love,
In a golden cage an innocent dove,
No more try to use your wings to fly,
For brides appear lovely ,demure and shy.
*
Forget that you are human any more,
Just be my shadow chaste and pure,
From now onwards I will your master be,
Forget that you were casual and free.
Yes,women are expected to follow social obligations..Hard hitting! So moving poem…. Nicely put💚💚

Harsh reality
Thanks Kirti
Why do husbands hope so?
Society tells them and wives follow, sometimes out of love and sometimes out of fear. I think there is a slight change now.
This is hard hitting hopefully I see change coming

Language and discourse of possession, Sarita Khullar, you have very beautifully hit the nail on the head. I’m amazed at the power language has in convincing women to be duty bound.
When will be break from this fetter!
There are a thousand things that bind the women. First of all is a feeling that her parents should not be unhappy because of her. Hope the change will come soon.
Reality of society, women have to be followers when they are creator
Out to break the shackles.
